The Pass It On campaign
At the centre of Fifteen’s philosophy is the action of Pass It On! Since opening our doors in 2002, Fifteen has been passing it on.
Every year we take on a group of 20 young apprentices, often termed disadvantaged and in need of a break in life, and we teach them to become professional chefs. It gives youngsters a sense of purpose and confidence, a trade and different social networks which in turn opens up a whole new set of opportunities for them. It also inspires them to pass on the skills they’ve learnt; to share freely with a contagious knock-on effect.
At the forefront of Fifteen is a quality restaurant operation, with a team of 25 professional chefs. They pass on their wealth of experience to our apprentices, who in turn teach their own colleagues and family. On the restaurant floor the staff share their passion by giving out food advice and cooking tips to our customers; on the business side we share what we’ve learnt about mentoring and team building with our local communities and partners.
Ministry of Food movement
In September 2008, Jamie Oliver is launching a national campaign to get people cooking from scratch by learning a set of basic recipes. His ‘Ministry of Food’ television series and book will launch a new movement to get people to pass on their cooking skills; this is Pass It On. We are hugely inspired by the work of Jamie and as such, we’re launching our own extension of the Pass It On campaign targeting individuals, schools, corporate organisations and councils, within the communities close by Fifteen Restaurants.
Fifteen and Pass It On
Fifteen is an independent registered charity, receiving all profits from the restaurant, but we have an ambitious target: we want to extend the Pass It On philosophy, beyond the doors of Fifteen, to more vulnerable young people who are open to learning basic food, cooking and life skills.
You can support Fifteen, and the work that we do, in a number of ways. Here is just a taster of ideas for creating a bespoke Pass It On event:
-
Book an educational food and wine evening for you and your guests
-
Book a corporate team building day or evening centered around food and cooking
-
Sponsor a Pass It On event with our chefs and graduates for local school children, young parents and the local community
